MSRC has an immediate opening for an Able Bodied Seaman or Junior Mate in Perth Amboy, New Jersey.  Working a Monday - Friday schedule with the ability to be home nights and weekends, the Able Bodied Seaman will be responsible for handling mooring or anchoring duties, vessel and equipment cleaning, maintenance, and painting duties.  The position will assist in the operation and deployment of response equipment as directed by the Master.  This position may be filled by a Junior Mate and would include expanded responsibility for the deck department.    

Requirements:

MSRC’s emergency response mission requires the Able Bodied Seaman to be able to report to the vessel within two hours upon notification of a response.   Additional requirements of the position include: 

  • Current USCG license of AB Special (Min)
  • License endorsements specific to STCW (RFPNW, Able Seafarer-Deck, lifeboatman)
  • Valid USCG medical certificate (STCW) 
  • Capable of prolonged, strenuous work onboard vessels at sea
  • Effective leadership and communications skills
  • Ability to operate industrial equipment and systems safely
  • Ability to operate a personal computer
  • 40-Hour Hazwoper is desired, can be provided after hire if necessary 
  • Employment is contingent upon:
    • successful completion of a background check
    • pre-hire medical exam and drug screen
    • possess or ability to obtain a valid drivers license, TWIC, and U.S. Passport
  • Physical requirements of the position include wearing personnel protective equipment (PPE), standing, lifting, and the ability to work in various temperatures and weather conditions.  
  • This position requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
