We are looking for a Marine Engineer with a background in ship repair, vessel and equipment maintenance, project management and engineering support. A large portion of your time will be spent planning and executing drydocking and repair projects for MSRC’s fleet of USCG certificated ships and barges. You will be one of a small team of engineers working together in a collaborative and challenging professional atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities
- Define regulatory inspection and repair requirements for drydocking.
- Develop technically sound repair specifications.
- Evaluate bids and proposals from shipyards and other suppliers
- Manage and execute vessel Drydocking projects and Underwater Inspections in Lieu Drydocking.
- Develop, negotiate and settle change orders and invoices.
- Provide technical engineering services for vessels and response sites including development of vessel modifications, equipment upgrades and repairs.
- Act as company point of contact to resolve regulatory questions including resolution of inspection deficiencies.
- Provide administrative and technical management of MSRC’s maintenance system.
- Develop new or improved maintenance procedures on an ongoing basis.
- Provide technical advice, training, mentoring and guidance to field and vessel maintenance and operating personnel.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering or related technical field.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in the Marine industry with demonstrated experience troubleshooting shipboard systems. Some examples include: port engineer, shipyard project manager, marine inspector, shipboard. operations or other related capacity.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for developing technical specifications as well as routine business correspondence.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Word).
- Familiarity with USCG and ABS regulations and Rules.
- Ability and desire to work in both industrial maritime environments including shipyards, as well as an office environment.
- Ability to travel up to 40% with some periods of 3-5 consecutive weeks.
- Readily available to communicate to customers in different U.S. time zones.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Possess or obtain a Passport, and Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC); a USCG License is a plus.
