Marine Spill Response Corporation (MSRC) has an excellent opportunity for a Master or Senior Master Responder in Astoria, OR. This position will have a primary focus on the operational requirements for navigating MSRC’s 73’ Response Vessel Western Gull.
MSRC is a not-for-profit, Oil Spill Removal Organization formed in 1990 to offer oil spill response services and mitigate damage to the environment. We are seeking a qualified individual who can perform preventative maintenance, basic corrective maintenance, and provide support in all phases of oil spill response equipment operation, deployment, retrieval, cleaning and storage. Prior oil spill response experience is not required. On-the-job training is provided!

Salary Range: Master Responder $24.24 to $34.73
Senior Master Responder $30.28 to $41.49
Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Licensure requirement: 100-Ton U.S. Coast Guard license and associated endorsements.
- Navigational expertise on the Columbia River system in the area from Portland to Astoria as well as the Oregon and Washington near coastal areas.
- Demonstrate ability and basic knowledge to operate industrial equipment safely.
- Availability to report to the work site location within a 2-hour recall notice and, in the event of a significant emergency response, work a longer consecutive workday schedule as needed.
- Possess a valid Driver’s License, Passport, TWIC, and complete the 40 Hour HAZWOPER training course.
- Proof of COVID19 Vaccine is required.
- Meet all work eligibility requirements, including successful background check, drug screen and pre-hire medical exam.
Responsibilities
- Participate in deployment, retrieval, cleaning, and storage of oil boom and sorbent materials, and assist in oil spill clean-up activities.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance and inspections on response equipment.
- Complete required paperwork and reports accurately and timely, and adhere to all policies, procedures and regulations supporting a safe work environment.
- Work effectively as part of a team, and perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, and ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds.
- Ability to wear personnel protective equipment prescribed by posted signs and written instruction.
- Able to work in all weather conditions, indoors and outdoors, and various temperatures.
- Ability to perform work on marine vessels in various sea conditions, including wet/oily decks.
