MSRC has an opening for a Communications Technician, who is ready to start their career with the leader in the oil spill response industry.  We are looking for a qualified individual with demonstrable skills in the following disciplines:

  • Satellite communications (VSAT, BUC, LNB, modem, etc.)
  • IP voice and data networks (Cisco switches, routers, cabling infrastructure, etc.)
  • Apple Mac OS X computers and IOS devices.
  • Two-way radio maintenance and control systems.

Requirements of the Position:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent 
  • CCENT certification preferred
  • Military or technical school training would be a plus

Primary Duties:

  • Provide technical support to address and resolve issues related to computer hardware, software, and network problems  
  • Install, operate and maintain a variety of equipment including computer systems, data networks, and VoIP telephone systems
  • Diagnose and resolve software and hardware incidents in the Apple Mac OS X operating system and across a range of software applications
  • Offer assistance for smart phones, iPads and other messaging devices
  • Perform regular preventative maintenance, schedule repairs, and update inventories on computer, radio and satellite equipment
  • Perform regular preventative maintenance, update profiles and work with our satellite NOC on any changes to our satellite equipment
  • Arrange and coordinate technical support for meetings and events, including video conferencing, SmartBoard, Apple TV and traditional audio/visual needs
  • You may have the opportunity to travel, spend time aboard offshore vessels and cross-train on satellite and radio systems

Qualifications – Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • A successful candidate will possess 3 to 5 years experience in the field with demonstrable skills deploying, upgrading and maintaining satellite and radio systems, Apple computers & servers, printers, and LAN/WAN equipment and wiring
  • Certifications such as CCENT or other similar certifications are an asset
  • Troubleshooting abilities consisting of MAC operating system, network infrastructure, network configuration and PC hardware
  • Network knowledge and connectivity troubleshooting experience (TCP/IP, DHCP, and DNS)
  • Very strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to remain current with changing technology as it relates to Customer Support
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Availability to report to the work location within a 2 hour recall notice and potentially travel to emergency response locations for an extended period of time.  Occasionally employees will be required to work during weekends and holidays

Among a number of other physical requirements, this position requires standing, and lifting up to 45lbs.
