MSRC is currently seeking an experienced Insurance Specialist to join our team.

The Insurance Specialist is responsible for providing support for a wide variety of insurance and risk management issues, including claims processing and insurance renewals. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Interface with claimants, insurers, and brokers on various MSRC insurance policies, insurance claims, and other insurance matters.
  • Act as the internal POC and authoritative source for insurance coverage questions.
  • Facilitate and coordinate data collection and disperse relevant information to departments, groups, and regions pertaining to insurance coverage, insurance claims, and renewals.
  • Coordinate with the contracts group, as necessary, to facilitate obtaining certificates of insurance.
  • Process Jones Act seaman claims, including claims analysis, determinations of coverage and liability, processing, coordination, and collaboration with multiple departments and functions, both internal and external. 
  • Assist the Legal Department in litigation matters involving Jones Act seaman claims.

Education and Experience 

  • College degree preferred (Associate or Bachelors degree). 
  • Requires a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in insurance policies and claims, or a combination of relevant education and experience.

Must be able to work independently with limited supervision and direction.  Must adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands, and perform with frequently changing priorities, delays, or unexpected events as business needs demand.  Must be well organized, prioritize and plan work activities, use time efficiently, identify and resolve problems, and develop realistic action plans.  Must possess and use strong interpersonal skills to establish and build working relationships across departments, groups, and regions.  Must maintain confidentiality and demonstrate accuracy, thoroughness, and quality of work product.  Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required.  Must be able to operate a personal computer for extended periods of time.  Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
