Marine Spill Response Corporation is a not-for-profit, U.S. Coast Guard Classified Oil Spill Removal Organization. MSRC was formed in 1990 to offer oil spill response services and mitigate damage to the environment. MSRC offers a full range of oil spill response capabilities intended to help meet the planning criteria of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990.

MSRC is offering an excellent opportunity for an Area Response Manager who is ready to start their career with the leader in the oil spill response industry.  We are seeking a qualified individual who is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, communications, contractor support service, training and readiness of response personnel, vessels, and containment/recovery equipment assigned to the sites within their geographical area of responsibility.

Requirements of the position:

  • Bachelor’s degree is highly desirable
  • Minimum 5 to 10 years in oil spill response or business management
  • Minimum 5+ years in a management position
  • Proven skills in operational management and in leading/motivating personnel.
  • Experience in hiring, contracting, training, planning and fiscal management. 
  • Must have effective leadership and excellent organization, prioritization and written and oral communication skills
  • Results-oriented, highly motivated individual who works well both independently and in a team environment. 
  • Employment is contingent upon:

Responsibilities:

  • Direct all regional operations in full compliance with all applicable Safety, Health, and Environmental laws, Regulations and Policies.
  • Manage daily activities and ensure spill response readiness of equipment and personnel at specified locations within the region on a 24 hour/day, 365-day/year basis.
  • Ensure implementation and oversight of corrective and preventative maintenance programs on MSRC equipment to ensure this equipment, when deployed, will work as designed and to ensure that the equipment is repaired if failures occur. 
  • Direct the utilization of spill response resources during spill events, drills and training, at all times taking into account safety of personnel, customer satisfaction, budget limitations and efficient use of staff, equipment and contracted services.
  • Responsible for implementation and support of MSRC contracts, maintenance services, response support, and Vessels Of Opportunity.  Includes ensuring technical needs are met, performance is effectively monitored and costs are managed within established budgets.
  • Support the development of strategic ventures and alliances to further enhance MSRC’s goals and objectives. Responsible for ensuring MSRC resources and needed contractor resources are qualified and ready to respond to a spill.
  • Develop relationships with customers, federal, state and local agencies, contracted Spill Team Area Responders (STAR’s) and other contractors. Attend and conduct drills and exercises, participate in meetings/functions and exhibit and promote MSRC capability and community presence through appropriate public affairs events.
  • Plan and execute MSRC annual budgets for specified locations.  Ensure compliance with budget through procurement tracking procedures, cost projections, actual vs. budget reconciliations, and utilization of documents such as general ledger and accounts payable reports.

Physical Requirements Include, Among Others:

  • Requires standing, lifting up to 15lbs
  • Requires the ability to wear the personnel protective equipment prescribed by posted signs and written instruction
